We hear the word sustainability and green lifestyle on a regular basis, but what does it actually mean? Why is it really important?
Here's a recently published fact: 40% of the Indian population will have no drinking water by 2030! This fact, amongst many others, highlights sustainability SHOULD become a buzz.
Our planet needs prime attention, and we all know it well enough to start reconsidering our lifestyles and our choices. But, most importantly, we have to prepare our children for the challenges of the future that are hard to envisage today.
At NWS the key focus is on introducing the concept of sustainability and sustainable living to our students. To fuel the same, we have introduced our students to multiple green initiatives, including:
iPledge: A book donation campaign where we encourage our students to donate books. We also encourage students to reach out to others in their communities to generate awareness to protect the environment and support our planet's ambition. iPledge is a sentiment that unites all students, parents, and teachers of NWS and their common goal of working towards a sustainable future. Your book is more valuable than you think. Donate your book to someone who needs it.
Rainwater Harvesting: Well thought and integrated rainwater harvesting system has been installed in the school and is properly utilised for recycling every drop of water. The installation also helps us teach our students the working and importance of such plants.
Solar Panels: To maximise our bit towards the planet, NWS has solar panels installed on the school roof to make the most of the natural energy and make the school's impact on energy consumption lighter and greener.
In addition to all this, we ensure 'going green' is not just talked about and read in textbooks but practised in our daily lives. Regular sessions are conducted to encourage simple day-to-day activities like gardening, water conservation, and recycling for students to learn, explore and imbibe all the green habits!
So, yes, the big buzz about sustainability is here to last, and at Nehru World School, we prepare our students to become the green, sustainable and responsible citizens of tomorrow!
