Moderation is a virtue, and in today's day and age of technological breakthroughs, going entirely off-screen will not be to our advantage. Screen at the end of the day offers a multi-sensorial approach towards learning, and thus children find it engaging.
Here maintaining a balance between screen and off-screen is a close second to deciding what is displayed on the screen. In the plethora of options that are available today, curating digital content and designing audio-visuals are of key importance.
Visual and sight-based learning makes learning integrated and more fun! This is why technology, games, visual representations, and even toys can fine-tune the learning process and make it interesting for the students.
Interactive learning is an all-encompassing approach to education. By emphasising student engagement with relevant resources and interactive classrooms are much more holistic. Besides, with interactive learning, classrooms are less about mugging up information and more about discussions, critical thinking, understanding others’ perspectives, collaborating with peers and open-ended questioning.
A simple toy can be integrated with multiple learning. We encourage collaborative gameplay where students learn to associate multiple learnings with the same toy.
We at NWS believe that interactive teaching is not something that classrooms can adapt to overnight. It requires consistent effort and adaptation on the part of both teachers and students. This is why we ensure our classrooms are more flexible and open-ended, complete with collaboration, freedom of choice, and fun learning. Some of them include the following:
Classroom Libraries: In addition to the one common school library, all the classrooms have small in-class libraries where students can read books of their choice in-between classes or during break periods as well as taking a new book home on a daily basis.
Classroom and Subject Resources: All the classrooms are equipped with relevant resources like maps, globes, timeline charts, stationery items, toys etc., to strengthen lessons and learnings by helping students understand the information beyond the words in the textbooks.
Smartboards and Visual Learning: We highly value visual learning at NWS. Smartboards, projectors, digital media resources, and animated videos are all available in the respective classrooms to engage students to learn with deep interest while simplifying the concepts.
Interactive Play Area for the Early Years Wing: At Healthy Planet, we recognise the importance of play as it contributes to children's cognitive, physical, social, and emotional well-being. Our play area is based on the idea of fun-learning-play. Children are the most attentive when they are around things they adore. We integrate learning into toys, making the play area a hub for learning, development, up-skilling, and creativity for the little ones!
So, yes, with interactive and integrated learning, students feel acknowledged because lessons are now more engaging than ever, and these benefits are readily apparent in their personalities and skills.
